Process Paper
Why we chose this topic:
WWII, the second great war is just a great war that had to protect the world from a just as great evil. World War II was one of the most bloody wars in all history. This war was the first with all types of new weapons that greatly interested us. Also throughout the war many refugees escaped to America, ranging from political refugees to those fearing for their lives, like the political refugee that took office in the building Dakotah Franks's family owned, leading us to an insight of the war not many get to see.
How we conducted research:
Our research was standard in the most part, we spent many hours reading various articles on the internet ranging from what effect the United States had on the war to the atrocities committed by the Nazi party. A good chunk of our research will differ greatly from other entries, we had documents from a political refugee, from Croatia, that fled to our home town and took office in a building Dakotah Frank's family owned. We spent several hours studying documents left by this man. These documents ranged from his journal, depicting his escape from the Italian government’s “puppeteer” control over his country, or his business ventures in his new home in the United States.
How we created our site:
Our decision to create a web site was not one decided early on, our original idea was to create an exhibit. Upon later discussion it was noted that a large majority of other entries were also exhibits, we decided to change our project to a website to limit the number of exhibits being judged. While working on our site we had a main theme to keep it fairly simple to use, we wanted anyone to be able to come to the site and learn something they did not know before. With this theme in mind we organized all of our information accordingly.
How our topic relates to the NHD theme:
World War II can have many turning points embedded in it like: the weapon developments, the combat use of radar, or the reconstruction of Germany. The main topic of our project was how the United States's opinion changed before and after the war. The United States can take blame for being the “ savior of Europe". That's what we tried to accomplish in our project, how the United States joined the war and turned the tides so to speak saving Europe from the oncoming Nazi regime and China and the US from the Japanese.
